What are we looking for? I mean we hunt for the right jobs, the right mate, the right friend, the right seat, the right city to live in, the right house. We purpose our search as a need for "the best." And we acquire more but some how never truly "arrive" at this place that we long for. We have improper names for it: the good life, the "I want to be rich" life, the fame, the important life, the "can't nobody tell me what to do any more" life.
But what if the things that we truly want are something else altogether like freedom, hope, a sense of true fulfillment in the work and love that we share, an abiding sense of safety and order. What if the things we do aren't the life. What if "the good life" is the ways that we feel, and how we are, and who we choose to become in the process and what we have experienced and who we have shared it with.
Our greatest successes are not measured by the school our degree came from, our mate's fame and pedigree, the designer shoes we wear, the high end cars we try to drive. Our greatest successes are measured by our heart condition, our character, our internal and more real self.
What are we working for? Let's discover our real reasons and call it by it's proper name. I am motivated by a need for freedom. I pursue order because I believe there is freedom when systems are in place. I write because there is freedom in all the ways you can be on the page. I run and kick because there is a freedom in strength and power. I dance because there is freedom in expression. I dive into new and challenging things because there is freedom in the unknown and the process of discovery. I travel because there is freedom in the journey. I want my life to feel and be free.
What do you want your life to feel like? How do you want to function, flow or move inside of any given day? What is that one motivating force that drives almost every thing that you do? What do you want most? REMEMBER: it's not a thing (car, house, man, woman), it's what you believe the thing brings (hope, love, freedom, joy). It's time to uncover the heart of our desires.
